DEPARTMENT OF KANNADA
The Department of Kannada was established in the year 1980. Our college has B.A., B.Com.andB.B.A. courses and Kannada language is taught as the second language.
Kannada being the regional language, majority of the students opt it as the second language. Admissions are made on the basis of qualifying examination’s performance in Kannada. Majority of our students are from rural background and from economically and socially weaker sections of the society. Their proficiency in Kannada language is good, the success rate is very high and the dropout rate is negligible.
The general library of the institution and the departmental library have adequate number of books in Kannada language and literature. Lecture method is predominantly used along with group discussions, guest lectures, and seminars in teaching-learning process. Evaluation of the students is being made on the basis of their performance in tests, re-tests, assignments, seminars and semester-wise examinations. The faculty members wholeheartedly participate and involve themselves in personal counseling of the students to address their grievances.
The department of Kannada has one permanent lecturer and one temporary lecturer. Both of them are creative and resourceful. One of the faculty members was associated in framing the syllabus of Kannada subject for degree students.
The faculty members also participate in workshops organized by the University for revising and updating the syllabus from time to time. Prof. Shankarnarayana.B.N. has served as the member of BOE and BOS of the University.
As “Creativity” is the motto of the department; a literary club is established in association with the department of English and Hindi. Students are given opportunities to hone their creative skills. The department also encourages the students to take up competitive examinations like IAS & KAS in Kannada. The department of Kannada has been maintaining 100% results over the years.
The department plans to conduct more and more proficient literary and cultural activities for students. It also plans to organize seminars and workshops. It is worth mentioning that the department is planning to introduce Kannada major in degree.
TheProf.Shankarnarayana B.N. was appointed to teach Kannada in Cauvery Institutions in the year 1988. Before being upgraded to Degree College, he has served as the Principal in Cauvery Pre-University College,Virajpet for 6 years. He was deputed to the department of Kannada in Government First Grade College, Hunsur for 8 years. He has given his yeoman service as Special Trained NSS Officer for 4 year.
He is the member of BOE and BOS,Mangalore University. At present, he is the Principal of Cauvery College, Virajpet. (Degree)
TheKaushalya.G, head of the Department of Kannada, has obtained her post graduate degree with Distinction from MysureUniversity in the year 2016. She has clearedTeachers Eligibility Test in the year 2019, KSET in the year 2021and NET in the year 2022.
